Arizona
Reviewed October 2026Local breed bans
Prohibited statewide
Since 2016 (SB 1248), Arizona cities, towns and counties may regulate dogs only if the rule is not specific to any breed (A.R.S. §9-499.04 and §11-1005).
Insurance
Insurance protected
Under A.R.S. §20-1510 (effective June 30, 2023), a dog’s breed may not be the sole factor in underwriting or pricing homeowners and renters policies.
What it means for you: Arizona is one of the most renter-friendly states for big dogs: no local bans and breed-neutral insurance rules.
