Prohibited statewide
Colorado has limited breed-specific regulation since 2004 (C.R.S. §18-9-204.5). Denver voters repealed the city’s pit bull ban in 2020 and Aurora followed in 2021 — no major Colorado city bans breeds today.
Insurance
Insurance protected
HB 23-1068 (2023) bars insurers from refusing, cancelling or raising rates on a policy because of breed; HB 25-1207 (2025) extended that protection to renters and multifamily policies.
What it means for you: Colorado landlords can no longer cite insurance as a reason to refuse your breed.
